WAYN TRAUB
WAYN TRAUB was born in Brussels on December 27th of 1972. He obtained a Masters at la Sorbonne, (Paris). After his training in classical dance from 1980 to 1992, had set up his own professional theatre group in 1994.
At the age of twenty-four he wrote his MANIFESTO FOR ANUMAL THEATRE, the first step in his on-going search for a contemporary form of ritual theatre. He starts a first series of productions at the end of the 1990s - BEASTS, WAYN STORM and LES MISES-EN-TRAUB.
In 1997 he starts his close collaboration with (soundtrack)-composer and producer Wim de Wilde. Between 1999 and 2001 he is involved as director and editor for several performing arts projects / films (Victoria, Josse De Pauw, KVS).
WAYN STORM, created in 2000 is his first major theatre piece, commissionned by the Time Festival in Ghent.
While continuing work on his own video and exhibition projects, he develops MARIA DOLORES / WAYN WASH I, in 2001, his cinematographic theatre piece that became a major European success. From September 2003 he is produced by the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris and is an Artist-in-residence at the renowned Toneelhuis in Antwerpen where he prepared and presented his concept JEAN-BAPTISTE / WAYN WASH II, made of a theatre performance (JEAN-BAPTISTE, 2005), a concert (THE COMEBACK OF JEAN-BAPTISTE, 2006, with Birdy Nam Nam and a classical orchestra conducted by Herbé Niquet), a record and a 35mm long feature film (JEAN-BAPTISTE, in production).
In 2006-2007 he starts an extraordinary investigation into the possibilities of contemporary ritual theatre and he creates the serie of shows ARKIOLOGI, experimental theatre project in which Wayn Traub wants to create a new Ark of the Covenant. That investigation resulted in 2008 in N.Q.Z.C. In 2009, he completed the Trilogy Wayn Wash by MARY-MAGDALENA / WAYN WASH III, a Cinema-Opera piece.
Wayn Traub was proclaimed Best European Theatre Director 2003 at the Zurich International Theatre Festival, the European most prestigious award. His film, MARIA-DOLORES got the Jury’s Special prize at the Film Festival in Ghent (oct 2004). The film, produced by Bart Van Langendonck was published in DVD by Sciapode.
