RENAUD BARRET, 36, is a graphic designer, photographer and director.
FLORENT DE LA TULLAYE, 35, is a director and photographer. After various trips to Russia, he has been awarded « artist residency » in Moscow (AFAA) in 2003. Photography award winner of the « Fondation de France ».
RENAUD BARRET and FLORENT DE LA TULLAYE have formed a partnership to make films and produce musicians from Kinshasa. During the recording of Okwess International music CD, they have directed JUPITER’S DANCE film. This musical documentary offers a vivid tour in Kinshasa’s ghettos, in search of its countless musicians, with Jupiter, Okwess’s charismatic leader as the main character. Since then, they have been exploring Kinshasa with the STAFF BENDA BILILI an orchestra of disabled musicians which lives in the street and spreads a sort of battered and festive rumba. In the meantime, they directed VICTOIRE TERMINUS, a feature documentary about Boxing Girl shot in the legendary stadium of Kinshasa where the match Foreman vs Mohammad Ali took place in 1974. VICTOIRE TERMINUS was premiered at the BERLINALE 2008 and awarded the prestigious GRIERSON AWARD by the British Film Institute at the London International Film Festival.
